Town Centre public realm plan - your chance to meet consultants
The invitation, extended from Ballymena Borough Council and Ballymena Town Centre Development, is to attend the Braid Arts Centre on Monday, February 20, from 1-4pm for the opportunity to discuss the project and to highlight any issues and opportunities that you would like to be considered in forthcoming proposals.
Ballymena Town Centre Public Realm Strategy is a key project identified in the Ballymena Town Centre Masterplan and Town Development Strategy with ‘Public Realm’ the term used to describe all publicly accessible outdoor areas, including streets, squares, parks and car parks.

Firstly a high level strategy for the entire town centre, identifying opportunities and establishing guidelines for the improvement of Ballymena’s public realm. Secondly, a £2.8m construction project to upgrade the ‘core streets’ of Ballymena Town Centre. This is likely to include the introduction of high quality paving, street trees, bespoke street furniture, lighting and public art, thereby greatly improving the town centre as a place to shop, visit, live, work and play.
In January 2012 Ballymena Borough Council appointed White Young Green (Project Managers) and The Paul Hogarth Company (Landscape Architects) to undertake the work. Next Monday’s event at The Braid now provides an opportunity for members of the public to learn more about the commission and to share their ideas directly with those who will be responsible for delivering the project.
Further public consultation will take place once draft proposals have been developed.
