Funding for historic churches
The scheme between the local authority and Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) aims to showcase a number of medieval churches throughout the borough, which the council hopes will attract more tourists to the area. The funding offer was made by the Rural Developments Programme, and the council will contribute a further £10,249 to the project.
Five sites have been selected, including St John’s in Islandmagee, Templecorran in Ballycarry, St Cedma’s in Larne, Glenarm Abbey and St Patrick’s in Cairncastle.
