New lights are ‘amazing’,says councillor McAfee
Speaking after the switch-on event, she said: “It was great to chat to so many people and as a councillor I’ve always made an effort to be hands on and that’s why I put on a bib and helped with the stewarding and handed out the sweets to the children in the crowds. By mingling with the crowds I really got a sense of the excitement, especially when Santa arrived.
“The new lights look amazing and I’m proud to be part of the council who voted as a grouping to replace the old system. This time last year I seemed to be continuously contacting council officers reporting lights that weren’t working. Hopefully we won’t have any problems this year.

“Also I hope the local shops got a boost. It certainly seemed that way as many were packed. As in previous years I would encourage people to shop local if at all possible. I know our town doesn’t have the big brand names of others however there are many great shops where many a great Christmas present can be got.
“Finally I would take this opportunity to thank the council staff and officers for all their hard work to make the evening such a success.”
