Rockmount’s Jimmy Bruen team reach quarter finals with fine win
Ronnie Cole took his team to Lurgan Golf Club on Saturday to play Dungannon for a place in the last eight of the Jimmy Bruen Shield (Ulster Section). Francis Ward and Danny Montgomery were paired in the first match; they completed a very fine victory 3 & 1. Eddie Donaldson and Sam Milligan went out second, although other results meant they didn’t have to complete their match. Ed McDonald and Gary McShane went out third, they fought bravely, succumbing to a 2 & 1 loss. Out fourth Peter O’Hara and Frank Wallace secured the biggest win, a 4 & 3 victory. Last out were Team Captain Ronnie Cole and Robert Patterson. After sixteen holes the Rockmount pair held a slender lead, one hole. On the seventeenth, a par 3 hole Robert teed off leaving Ronnie with a pitch shot from short of the green. Ronnie pitched and left Robert a five foot putt to win the hole and the match. Robert made no mistake with the putt and Rockmount will now play the winners of Galgorm Castle versus Carnlea in the quarters
